Persistent Bird

There is a very persistent bird in our area and this bird and I do not get along. It keeps building a nest in my grill. Yes, in my grill. Which means that every time I open the lid to use it, I have to clean out the beginnings of a nest first. However, this time, I waited quite a while between grill uses and this is what I found.

A very LARGE nest. And it had a bonus this time too.

Yep, eggs. I felt a little guilty tearing it apart so I asked Paul to just move it. I have no idea if the bird will follow the nest of just abandon it but I figured we could at least try!

Except that by the time Paul headed outside to move it, the bird had come back. And was NOT happy about his intrusion. So we will be trying to get rid of it later, when the bird is away!

And it had started to rain (AGAIN!) anyway - so cooking our chicken inside seemed like a good idea!

Just helping Daddy work!

The kids love to visit Paul at work. As you can see, Trae makes himself right at home!

Busy Weekend!

We had a busy weekend that ended a little differently then we had planned! Friday afternoon we headed to Michael and Mindy's to spend some time with friends for Michael's 30th birthday. We went kid free and had a great, relaxing time! We had supper out on Friday evening and then Mindy graciously fed us some awesome food on Saturday. We spent the rest of the time just chatting and playing games. Very fun!

We had plans on Sunday to have dinner with all of my family (at mom and dad's) to celebrate Ali and Dakota's birthdays. I noticed that morning that Trae wasn't feeling the best but it wasn't until we were at church in Francesville that I noticed he was breathing heavy like he was very congested. As soon as we got to my parents house I changed his clothes and put him down for a nap. He lay in the crib and never really slept just kinda moaned and chatted to himself. After a while, when he began to cry, I decided maybe he just wasn't tired and Kayla offered to go get him up.

When she brought him down we could tell something was really wrong. His breathing was very rapid, you could hear this whistling/rattling sound with every breath and when I lifted his shirt he was trying so hard to breathe that he was doing what they call "retracting" and using his stomach muscles to breathe. He was laboring so hard that with every breath his stomach would suck up under his ribs, which I knew was not a good sign. So off Paul and I went to the ER with Trae, leaving the rest of my family to have the birthday party without us!

I'll save you the long ER story and just say that after an exam and some chest x-rays, they ended up admitting him so he could be in a croup tent and get round the clock breathing treatments.

This picture is only a few hours into the whole ordeal and I think I already look tired.

Let me out of here!!

I, of course, thought he looked adorable in his little hospital gown but he wasn't interested in a picture at this point. I did have some pajamas for him but after one of his breathing treatments he coughed so hard he puked all over them so we had to change into a hospital gown.

Finally going home! I don't know if there were just no other wheelchairs available but this one they wheeled him out in was way to big for him!

There was some discussion of staying a second night but in the end they decided we could go home late Monday evening if we took a nebulizer to give him breathing treatments at home and watched him closely. Monday happened to be Dakota's birthday so I was glad to get to go home and at least see him a little bit that day!

I took Trae to see his pediatrician for a follow up on Tuesday. (We had a different Dr at the hospital). Basically, they are saying he had RSV which led to Bronchiolitis but had not yet developed into pneumonia when we took him to the ER. He'll be on breathing treatments at home here for a while.

We are very thankful that it wasn't more serious and that we only had to have one night in the hospital! As we headed to the ER I just prayed that we and the Dr's could make the right choices for treatment. I very much felt the Lord's presence and His peace as we navigated the whole ordeal.

Belated Birthday Post

Happy 6th Birthday Dakota!!

And I do have a valid reason for posting late. More on that tomorrow, hopefully!
